Labor Day in Rogers City signifies not only the traditional holiday marking the end of summer but also serves as a poignant reminder of the fleeting joys of the warm season. As the sun begins to dip lower in the sky and the crispness of autumn encroaches, families converge on the picturesque shores of Lake Huron. Here, they revel in the last opportunities for swimming and sunbathing, striving to complete their summer tans before the school year commences. The laughter of children splashing in the water mingles with the gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with nostalgia and warmth.

Many fathers seize this occasion to embark on a final fishing trip with their children, casting lines into the shimmering waters in hopes of catching the last fish of the season. These trips not only provide a chance to bond but also create cherished memories that will be recounted in the years to come. Meanwhile, mothers are busy preparing for the upcoming school year, bustling through the community’s fine retail stores to stock up on essential school supplies. They gather groceries and carefully select back-to-school shoes and outfits, ensuring their children are well-equipped for the new academic challenges ahead.

At the high school level, the new faculty includes Richard Abraham, who will teach physical education and serve as the coach, alongside Delmar Conley, who will take charge of the band program. Donald Converse joins as the art teacher, while William Smith will instruct students in Latin and English. The addition of these educators is anticipated to enrich the learning environment and provide students with diverse opportunities to explore their interests.

The hot lunch program, a staple of the school experience, will once again be offered this year, with Marjorie Reynard and Margaret Leow overseeing its operations. This program is crucial in ensuring that students receive nutritious meals during the school day, promoting both health and concentration in the classroom. Furthermore, a new high school orientation and guidance course will be introduced, which will be mandatory for all ninth graders. This essential course, taught by Milton Hoffer, James Quinn, and Herman Haneckow, aims to facilitate a smooth transition into high school, providing students with the tools they need to navigate their new environment successfully.
