As the season transitions from the vibrant hues of fall to the crisp, chilly embrace of winter, the atmosphere is charged with excitement and anticipation, especially within the halls of Rogers City High School. The students and faculty are abuzz with various activities as they embrace the changing season and the onset of winter festivities.

The Huron varsity football team, having navigated a challenging season, concluded their campaign with a final record of 4-2. Despite facing a tough defeat against Alpena, a formidable rival, the team managed to secure a triumphant victory against Petoskey, which allowed them to end the season on a high note. This performance earned them a commendable second place in the East Division of the Big 8 Conference, trailing only behind Alpena, who completed their season undefeated with a stellar 6-0 record. The hard work and dedication of the players did not go unnoticed, as four standout team members were recognized and honored by being selected for the prestigious All Conference Football team, an accolade determined by the coaches within the conference. Dick Flewelling and Humphrey Berg were celebrated for their exceptional skills, earning spots on the first team, while Dominic Mauti and Bob Leszinske were acknowledged for their contributions by securing places on the second team.

In addition to the athletic achievements, the school community is alive with social activities. This month, students have the opportunity to partake in a variety of school-sponsored dances that foster camaraderie and school spirit. Among these events is a lively dance organized by the Rhythm Club, a delightful box social where students can share homemade treats, a Welcome Club dance that invites newcomers to feel at home, and an eighth-grade class party designed to celebrate the transition of younger students into high school life.

Adding to the excitement is the newly established Teen Age Canteen, a vibrant social hub sponsored by Westminster Church, which is making waves in the community. Their inaugural event, a Sadie Hawkins dance, promises an evening of fun and music, featuring the popular Skip Cowan's Orchestra from Alpena, drawing in teenagers eager to enjoy a night of dancing and socializing.

As the month progresses, the local community is also deeply engaged in the annual deer hunting season. The woods surrounding Rogers City are alive with hunters, each hoping to share stories of their woodland adventures. Local bars, restaurants, and grocery stores are bustling with activity as hunters gather to recount their experiences and swap tales of the one that got away. Lawrence Lozen stands out as the first to report a successful hunt, having bagged an impressive eleven-point buck near Grace Harbor, a feat that has become the talk of the town. Furthermore, the newly established Norway Pine Club has exciting news of its own, with Lorman Jones from Detroit proudly announcing that he secured an eight-point buck on the very first day of the hunting season, adding to the local lore of the hunt.

As families prepare to gather for Thanksgiving this year, the atmosphere is filled with gratitude and reflection. The community has much to celebrate, including the momentous end of the war, which has seen many loved ones return to the family table after a long absence. The spirit of Thanksgiving is enriched by the promise of new beginnings, as families come together to share meals, stories, and the warmth of togetherness during this special time of year.
