November 1943

As the seasons shift from the vibrant hues of fall to the stark, serene beauty of winter, the Huron football team concluded their season with a highly anticipated game against their long-standing arch-rival Alpena. Unfortunately, after a fierce battle on the field, the Hurons faced a loss that left us all feeling a mix of disappointment and resolve for the future.

In the wake of the game, the junior class organized a dance in the high school gymnasium, a lively event that drew students together for a night of fun and camaraderie. The dance was held from 9:00 to 12:00 p.m., with the lively tunes provided by the Paul Vogelheim Band, whose music filled the gym with an infectious energy that kept everyone on their feet. Admission was 40 cents per couple. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, dancing, and the joys of being together as we celebrated the end of the football season, despite the outcome of the game.

As we transition into winter, local businesses are gearing up for the hunting season, which is always a significant time in our community. Rogers City Hardware and Krueger Hardware are actively preparing and advertising a variety of hunting supplies in the Presque Isle County Advance. They are showcasing everything from rifles and ammunition to outdoor gear and apparel, ensuring that every hunter is well-equipped for the season ahead. The excitement for hunting is palpable, as many in our town look forward to this annual tradition that brings friends and families together in the great outdoors.

Lastly, we celebrate Thanksgiving, a time-honored tradition that brings families and friends together to express gratitude for the blessings in their lives. This year, however, the atmosphere is tinged with a bittersweet sentiment, as we find ourselves missing loved ones who are bravely serving in the armed forces. Their absence is deeply felt around dining tables, where empty chairs serve as poignant reminders of their sacrifice and dedication.
