Graduation season has arrived in Rogers City, with Rogers City High School proudly celebrating its largest graduating class ever, as 83 seniors received their diplomas. This significant event featured a commencement speech by Congressman Fred Bradley, who motivated the graduates with encouraging words and reflections on the value of education in challenging times. Superintendent Howard Gilpin, a respected leader in the local education community, led the ceremony and personally handed each diploma to the enthusiastic graduates, many of whom felt a blend of excitement and nostalgia as they prepared to begin the next phase of their lives.

The week of graduation commenced with a poignant Baccalaureate service held in the high school auditorium, a cherished tradition that brought together students, families, and community members. This solemn event was conducted by Reverend S.J. Francis of Westminster Church, who offered heartfelt blessings and words of wisdom to the graduates, encouraging them to carry the values of integrity and compassion into their future endeavors. The atmosphere was one of reverence and hope, as attendees reflected on the journey of the graduating class and the collective experiences that had shaped them.

Following the Baccalaureate service, the excitement continued with a well-attended class night program the next evening, which served as a celebration of the students' achievements and camaraderie. The program featured a series of speeches that highlighted the talents and aspirations of the graduates. Salutatorian Anita Borough delivered a thoughtful address that resonated with her classmates, while Class President Jack Francis shared anecdotes and memories that underscored the bonds formed during their years at Rogers City High. The evening culminated with a stirring Valedictorian speech from Paul Karsten, who eloquently expressed gratitude on behalf of the class and encouraged his peers to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.

In addition to the graduation festivities, St. Ignatius Catholic School was honored with the annual Traveling Safety Cup Award, a prestigious recognition bestowed by the Automobile Club of Michigan. This award acknowledged the school's commitment to promoting safety and awareness among its students. Furthermore, safety captain Delmar Conley was celebrated for his exemplary leadership, receiving a $25.00 war savings bond as a token of appreciation for his dedication in guiding the safety squad throughout the school year. This recognition not only highlighted individual achievements but also emphasized the community's commitment to fostering a safe environment for its youth.

As summer approached, the Rogers City Community Band kicked off their much-anticipated summer concert series, much to the delight of residents. The program featured a repertoire of patriotic pieces that stirred a sense of pride and unity among the audience. Iconic compositions such as "Stars and Stripes Forever," "Anchors Aweigh," "The American Legion Post March," and the beloved "Star Spangled Banner" filled the air, creating an atmosphere of celebration and remembrance. The Community Band's performances are scheduled to take place on Friday nights throughout the summer, providing a wonderful opportunity for families to gather, enjoy music, and celebrate the spirit of their community.

In a gesture of support for the recent graduates preparing to transition into military service, the Brooks Hotel hosted a special banquet honoring those heading off to Army training camps. This gathering was a heartfelt send-off for the young men, including attendees such as Earl Fraser, Eldred Haselhuhn, Owen Kroll, Clifford Brege, Douglas Bellmore, Charles Gordon, Roy Voda, Joe Micketti, John Widajewski, Wallace DuLac, Charles Zemple, Robert Wing, and Donald Erickson. Friends and family members came together to celebrate their achievements and express pride in their commitment to serve the nation during a challenging time in history.
