In a remarkable highlight for the community, the senior class of Rogers City High School will host the first formal dance since V-J Day, aptly named the Victory Ball. This much-anticipated event invites dance enthusiasts from the entire community to join in a night of elegance and joy. The local high school gymnasium has been transformed into a stunning venue, adorned in a patriotic red, white, and blue color scheme that pays homage to the nation's resilience and spirit. As the evening unfolds, the sounds of music fill the air, provided by the talented Skip Cowan's six-piece orchestra hailing from nearby Alpena. The seniors have made it their mission to welcome many young war veterans and former graduates to this special gathering, fostering a sense of unity and recognition for those who have served.

In the realm of sports, the Huron varsity basketball team recently played a thrilling game that had fans on the edge of their seats, narrowly losing to their fierce rivals, the Alpena Wildcats, with a score of 33-32 on their home court. The atmosphere in the Rogers City High School gymnasium was electric, as nearly 1,100 enthusiastic fans packed the stands to witness this intense showdown. The rivalry between the Hurons and the Wildcats has been a longstanding one, with Jim Quinn, the head coach of the Hurons for the past decade, now holding a balanced record of 9 wins and 9 losses against Alpena. Center Bob Gordon emerged as a standout player for the Hurons, leading the team with an impressive 13 points, showcasing his skill and determination on the court.



In business news, a significant change has taken place in the local retail landscape. Smart Grocery, a staple in the Pinewood area for many years and long operated by the well-respected Ross Smart, has officially been sold to Albert Hoeft. Hoeft, who has recently transitioned from a career in electrical repairs, has exciting plans for the store, intending to rename it Speed's Grocery. This change marks a new chapter for the business, and the community is eager to see how Hoeft will bring his vision to life, potentially introducing new products and services that cater to the needs of local residents.
